When searching for a home, the school district is a very important component. Homes in areas with top schools have a higher intrinsic value due to the quality of the public schools.

In the Lamorinda high schools, we have counselors who work with our students on discovering their strengths and passions, and then guiding them through college and career planning. Most of the schools counselors salaries is paid through local parcel taxes and community/parent fundraising.
I have served on the fund raising board for the Orinda schools for the past 8 years. We raise funds ($1.5 million, last year) to support class size reduction, teacher salaries for art, music, public speaking, debate, choral, jazz band, foreign languages, and a number of other electives. We help fund academic counselors on the high school level, and librarians at k-8 , middle school and high school.
Schools in Lafayette are in the same high school district with Orinda and Moraga. Lafayette has very similar fund raising efforts to support K-8th grade and Lafayette Education Foundation is very similar to the foundation that I work with in Orinda
