When searching for a home, the school district is a very important component. Homes in areas with top schools have a higher intrinsic value due to the quality of the public schools.

Here in the Lamorinda high schools, through parcel taxes and parent/community fund raising, we do have dedicated counselors who sole job to help students with their college and career planning.

I have served on the fund raising board for the Orinda schools for the past 8 years. We raise funds ($1.5 million, last year) to support class size reduction, teacher salaries for art, music, public speaking, debate, choral, jazz band, foreign languages, and a number of other electives. We help fund academic counselors on the high school level, and librarians at k-8 , middle school and high school.
